Fleetwood Gymnasium C.Y.P.
F A Q's
Why should my son/daughter play soccer at Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP?
Participation in a team sport has long been recognised as playing an important role in the development of a child's character. It teaches the child responsibility, discipline and helps to develop a child's concentration span.
Team sport widens a child's range of friends and provides a healthy outdoor activity which leads to increased fitness and development of their motor skills.
Soccer is basically a simple game and is easy to learn. It is truly a team sport in which the size of the player has little relevance. Soccer, although classed as a contact sport does not have the type of injuries other sports do.
Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP will soon be an FA Chartered Development Club that provides a safe environment in which your child can improve their soccer skills as well as having a good time.
When do they play?
Sign-on is in July each year although new players can sign on at Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP at anytime up until the 31st December of the season. The season usually runs between September and April. Generally children under 10 years play on Saturdays. Children from 11-16 play on Sundays so they can meet school or work commitments.
How old do you have to be to start playing soccer?
Usually children have turned 5 years of age before they start to play soccer, and Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP will introduce a Soccer academy to accommodate these young players.
Do young children play on a large pitch?
No. Children aged 5 to 10 years play Mini Soccer, this is played on a much smaller pitch with smaller goals. Mini Soccer has modified rules to give the kids more fun and time on the ball.
Do many girls play soccer?
Girls and boys play in mixed teams from 5-11 years of age. From 11 years onwards girls play in an all girls team.
Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP will welcome all girls who would like to come and play football.
How much does it cost?

In addition, parents are expected to pay subs at £3 per week. These subs. go towards the Training, referees' charges, presentation, league fees, pitch fees, equipment, development and Club funds.
Subs will also be collected throughout the summer break to enable team coaches to gain funds for, new kit and equipment and team expenses.
The club encourage all our teams to enter local Football Tournaments the cost of these are not included in your subs. Parents are asked to pay for their child to enter or sell a football card to raise the money.
Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP, will provide match strip (socks, shorts and shirts) either included in your registration or via sponsorship. All kit is the property of the club and not the individual and must therefore be looked after in the proper manner. Players must provide their own shin guards, boots and training kit. Who pays player fines?
Players fined in matches for card offences are responsible to pay their own fines, this will also encourage better behaviour on the field.
Is my child covered by Insurance?
Yes. Fleetwood Gymnasium CYP has modest insurance included in your child's registration fee. This insurance is effective immediately when you register your child.
Players are only covered whilst travelling to and from games, training and playing games approved by the County FA in which we play.
My child has been injured whilst playing, what should I do?
If the player is registered with the Club and was injured playing or training you should advise your team manager as soon as possible. Your manager has an Incident Book where the injury should be entered.

FA CHARTER STANDARD
What is the charter standard and how does it concern me?
The FA Charter Standard Clubs programme, supported by FA Community Partner McDonald's, was launched in February 2001 with the aim of setting standards of coaching, administration and child protection for clubs working with young people.
The programme is aimed at boys and girls under 16 and will help children and parents find in their local area a club that meets FA standards of coaching, administration, development and child protection. Youth Clubs need to demonstrate:-
Management
Child Protection
Qualified Coaches
Fair Play
Insurance
Progression
However maybe the most important benefit is the recognition, from The FA, that the club provides a safe, quality environment for its young players.
The project is at the heart of The Football Association's investment programme for grassroots football that will see £32 million spent to improve facilities and coaching across the country.
What The Players Say
Graeme Le Saux - Southampton FC and England ”As a parent I am pleased to support The F.A. Charter Standard for Clubs and its commitment to raising standards and recognising good practice for young players at all levels".
Gareth Southgate - Middlesbrough FC and England”As a father I am delighted that The F.A. Charter Standard for Clubs recognises the importance of Child Protection Training and Codes of Conduct in the successful development of youth football at all levels".
FUN SAFE AND ENJOYABLE
Fleetwood Gymnasium club for young people have undertaken the directive from the FA to bring our club into the new millennium, by ensuring that all our coaches are FA approved, and must attain, their level (1) coaching badge.
All the staff are trained in first aid, and child protection, and are encouraged to be positive when dealing with children. (Both in and out of sport.) The concept is to bring a better level of coaching to the grass roots of soccer from which all children will benefit.
Our aim is to introduce the kids into soccer in a positive way with fun, safety and enjoyment top of our agenda.
Good equipment, good facilities, and qualified coaches with the skills to teach young players are our promise to you.
